About the organisation

Based in beautiful Whanganui Te Oranganui is a kaupapa Māori organisation who offers a range of health and wellbeing services for whānau in the Whanganui region and surrounding districts. 

Waiora Hinengaro provide mental health & addiction services to support tāngata whai ora in their journey back to health and wellbeing, which is also underpinned in the belief that people can find their own strengths to live the life the way they want, utilising whānau as key contributors.

Waiora Hinengaro have a number of support services that support a full spectrum of tāngata whai ora such as:

  • Rangatahi / Tamariki

  • Te Whare Mahana

  • Whakahaumanu Mana Tane

About the role:

The role of Kaitūruki - Mental Health Support Worker is to support/tautoko tangata whai ora in their recovery and wellness journey using the values of tikanga māori, whānau ora and the skills and knowledge of current mental health support practice.

Who You Are

Essential Experience & Qualifications 

  • Preferred - Level 4 National qualification or equivalent in mental health or working towards it

  • Experience working with mental health services

Skills and Attributes ​​​

  • Well organised and can prioritise

  • Is acceptable to whanau, hapu and iwi and Maori community

  • Creative and innovative within restricted resources

  • Can use word processor for communication needs including word processing, communication and internet research

Other requirements of this position: 

  • A medium degree of physically capacity is required as the work involves standing, walking, sitting, stretching, twisting bending and lifting/moving weights up to and above 15 kilograms frequently.

  • Ability to move about and undertake necessary duties (sometimes in restricted spaces) both in an office environment and out in the community

  • Visual ability sufficient to drive a motor vehicle, read accurately, write/record in a legible manner

  • Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate with clients and co-workers enabling direct and telephone communication

Physical Attributes

  • Current clean, full NZ driver's license

  • Must be able to pass Te Oranganui worker safety checks
