About the role

Based in beautiful Whanganui Te Oranganui is a kaupapa Māori organisation who offers a range of health and wellbeing services for whānau in the Whanganui region and surrounding districts. 


Te Taituarā is the business unit of Te Oranganui and is the one service that supports all other Te Oranganui services internally from a back office perspective.


Te Taituarā is the backbone of the organisation and consists of finance, people, communication, data, knowledge, analytics and business administration support personnel who have the skill and expertise to ensure the smooth running of Te Oranganui so the front-line staff are able to service the Kaimahi and community in a efficient and Professional manner.

About the role

The Kaipāneke will help ensure that business unit runs smoothly and efficiently and will be the face of Te Oranganui’s main office reception to whānau and manuhiri who visit. The Receptionist is also responsible for delivering a high-quality administration support service to Te Taituarā and it’s Kaihautū – the Business Manager. You will utilise organisational and interpersonal skills to work with all kaimahi and manuhiri.

The perfect candidate will have:

  • Ability to awhi and manaaki all whānau and manuhiri who visit Te Oranganui

  • Excellent administration and support skills/experience

  • Proficiency to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Ability to think fast with problem solving skills

  • Knowledge of te reo māori me ōna tikanga

Who You Are

Experience & Qualifications


  • Tertiary level qualification (Level 4 or higher) in Business Administration, or;

  • Proven experience in a busy administration role with accountability for a wide variety of complex administration and/or secretarial tasks

Essential Skills

  • Minimum typing speed of 50+ words per minute with high accuracy

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Work, Excel, Adobe and PowerPoint

  • Excellent minute taking skills

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

Personal Attributes and Skills

  • Ability to work positively under pressure and continuously re-prioritise workload while maintaining a high level of accuracy

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders

  • Excellent written, literacy, numeracy and IT skills

  • Ability to persevere with a task and to display the required energy to achieve the objectives despite obstacles

Physical Attributes – Administration/Managemen

  •  Occasional lifting up to 10 kg.

  • Must be able to work in an office environment.

  • Manual dexterity needed for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks

  • Sitting for extended periods of time

  • Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate with others enabling direct and telephone communication

  • Visual ability sufficient to read accurately, write/record in a legible manner and perform normal duties of this position

Other Requirements of this Position

  • Current clean, full NZ driver licence

  • Must be able to pass Te Oranganui’s background, vetting and worker safety checks

  •  New Zealand citizenship, permanent resident status, or a NZ work permit​
